Ballast Group is a CPA firm that provides fractional CFO services, advisory services, and coaching from our home base in Denver, Colorado. Established in 2014, the firm was founded with a desire to help organizations go beyond their horizon. We do this by turning numbers into knowledge.

We believe that a rising tide floats all boats, and the tide will come in if we educate and empower our people and clients to help them achieve their goals.

We are a CPA firm that focuses on avoiding and solving cash problems and creating cash opportunities.

We are steeped in experience in many industries, which provides us a broader base of knowledge and more creative solutions.

We are free from emotional attachment, which allows us to be a good sounding board, and provide objective advice.

 John Dowling, CPA

John’s analytical approach started as a child, taking apart toys and putting them back together again. John still has this intellectual curiosity, and for more than 15 years, has developed a process to transform knowledge into creative solutions, improving compliance, and financial issues for organizations in any industry.

John’s Background & experience

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) since 2005, John has worked with privately held companies and public corporations of all sizes and in all stages of development. John’s technical background gives him an edge in external and internal auditing, financial analysis, accounting and financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, project management, and process improvement. John is highly regarded for his ability to review and analyze complex business and accounting scenarios, and communicate findings in clear and easy-to-understand terminology.

Passionate about helping and mentoring others, John believes that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing right. A native of upstate New York, John grew up exploring the Adirondacks, snowboarding down the slopes as often as he mountain-biked single-track. John was teaching people to “shred the gnar” in the early 1990s long before it was cool and the term existed.

After moving to Colorado and the Rocky Mountains, John added camping and fly fishing to his repertoire. John and his wife met at an airport; fitting as they and their children love to travel around the country, meeting people, and trying new foods, and exploring national parks and water activities.
